The Quellinesschool for Arts and Crafts was a school for sculptors in Amsterdam, which operated between 1877-1923.
This calendar was produced in 1904 by students of the school. Each month features a unique two colour artwork in an art nouveau style, adorned with, plants, leaves, acorns, peacocks, fish and flowers.
Some months include a title that indicates the season. Directly translated to English, January is lumber month, March is spring month, April is grass month, May is flowering month, June is summer month, August is harvest month, and October is wine month.
The artwork has been faithfully reproduced from the original, which is now in the public domain, separating out the colour layers and reprinting them in colours that most closely match the original. Any misalignment of the original artwork has not been corrected and smudges have not been removed, including the fingerprint on the edge of the month of March left behind during the printing process. The artwork for July was the only one not available from the original set, so the artwork for January has been used in its place and reinterpreted in a new colour palette reminiscent of a starry summer night sky.
